Earning his keep? No, just a great husband!!

8:18 pm

Nathan had the day off today, but I had to work two shifts at the Y. Instead of playing all day Nathan did LOTS of stuff around the house, including planting my grass!! He also brought me dinner and did the grocery shopping.

Thanks babe! You are awesome and I love you.

Bad timing? Or RUDE!

7:59 pm

It is almost 9pm on a school/work night and our new neighbors decided now would be a great time to start moving in. They are making no effort to try an use quiet feet or voices, so there is constant pounding going up and down the stairs. I expected some noise from them moving in… I just assumed most of it would be during the day.

Imagination from the heart

7:55 pm

Johanna has always had a very vivid imagination. For at least a year now she has talked about her “sister” Aubrelly. Even to the point of great annoyance she had made up story after story of this sister. Tonight, as usual, she was talking to some kids about her sister. They of course know our family and that Johanna doesn’t have a sister, so they were making fun of her and being a little mean telling her that she didn’t have a sister. On the way home she was sniffling (her fake cry, meaning she is upset, but knows its not really worth crying about) and telling me how her sister is pretend but she is real in her heart imagination just not in her brain imagination. I don’t really know how to handle this situation. While I feel like yelling at the kids for hurting my daughter’s feelings, I totally understand that they don’t understand what the heck Joey is talking about. But Johanna doesn’t seem to acknowledge or want to acknowledge that other people don’t understand her sister stories. When I was little I had “fairies.” They were very real to me, so much that I made them little houses in the canyon I played in with my friends. I can almost remember how they looked, but it is a memory that is pretty vague, but I remember the “feeling” of their friendship. I am glad Johanna has a creative mind, I just don’t want her to be teased about it.

In the kitchen

2:54 pm

I have no grass, I have no pool. What I do have is a pot of water on the kitchen floor!

Healthy sleep habits, happy baby

6:18 pm

Jaime loaned me this book a week ago and I have actually read and put to use many of their suggestions. Quinn is sleeping through the night!! Last night he slept 7:30-5:00, when Nathan’s alarm went off. I am stunned, excited, proud…it is great! They say it takes about four days to really get into the groove and they were right. Tonight is night 5, Quinn is in bed as of 6:30pm.

Good Samaritan

7:50 pm

I was on my way to work this afternoon, during the heat of the day, and drove past a car parked across from the college with a dog locked in it. The windows were down a little, but still, it had to have been over a hundred degrees in there. So I called 911. They told me to call Ventura pd so I did. I gave them the license plate # car make/color etc.

I thought it was weird that they told me to call the police…isn’t that what 911 does for you. Nathan said it’s because it wasn’t an emergency. if it had been a kid it would have been…so what’s the difference?

A little pissed off now

6:35 pm

So apparently people are trying to blow off the pesticide accident as unimportant. If it affects kids its IMPORTANT. I’m glad the county felt it was urgent enough to respond with their decontamination crew, but it feels like they are saying it wasn’t necessary…Then why did you scare my child with soooo many fire trucks, ambulances and other “traumatic” circumstances at school?

I love books

3:59 pm

childrens books that is. I went to my parents church to drop stuff off for their rummage sale tomorrow and left with a huge stack of my favorites: 8 Nancy Drew’s, 2 Ramona books, Pipi Longstockings, some level 1 &2 readers, a 1st grage S.S. book, and literary reader, and 2 books for Quinn.

Yeah cheap books!!!

Stung

3:55 pm

Quinn decided it would be a good idea to run through our flowering ice plant. He came out with two bee stings, one on his wrist and one on his finger. No tears?!? I scraped the venom sacks and stingers off with my vons card and pulled a bit of stinger out with tweezers. Thank God he is not allergic to bees!

Haz Mat

12:36 pm

Joey’s school became decontamination central today after the Temple Beth Torah was accidentally sprayed with bug spray this morning. Many of their kids were outside playing when the duster helicopter accidentally missed the orchards across Foothill. Fortunately Kids Corner Preschool was lined up and going inside when it happened so none of our kids were affected.
I was asleep on the couch when my mom called. She was trying to be subtle but I could sense something was wrong. She asked if I had gotten a call from Joey’s school. No. “Some of the kids from the school next door are being transported for decontamination. I just wondered if Kids Corner was affected.” I didn’t know anything so I called. The phone was busy, so I grabbed Quinn and went to check things out. As I came down Foothill to turn on Kimball I saw a few fire trucks and ambulances at the Temple. When I turned the corner I saw what looked like an entire fleet of fire trucks, ambulances, news vans, and the Haz Mat truck filling the Kids Corner parking lot. They had drapes tied between the vehicles making a private enclosure. Caution tape was blocking most of the parking lot. I parked the car, but left it running with the air conditioner on and Quinn inside…I didn’t know what had happened just that decontamination was needed. I walked over to the edge of the caution tape and nervously asked a lady who was being interviewed if Kids Corner kids were involved. She said she didn’t think so. Sigh of relief. Then I went into the classrooms to find Joey and hear what happened. Joey was a bit scared and worried looking so I offered for her to come home early…she did.

Ah drama.

Years ago when I worked at Kids Corner we had a major debate/concern about whether or not it was safe to have the kids outside or even the windows open during the spraying. I remember an arrangement being made that we would receive notice before they sprayed so we could be inside and close the windows. Apparently that doesn’t happen…but I guarantee it will start now.
